About us
At the helm is Sandor Dijkstra, with his wife Lisa by his side. In 2012, Sandor was given the opportunity to continue as an entrepreneur after having worked for many years as a chef within the company. In collaboration with the owners of the building, Bonne and Lillian Akse, they brought the current Basalt to fame.
In recent years, much has changed at the Den Oever harbor. A large fish auction has been established, the fishing trawlers have been modernized, and the east quay has been adapted for sport fishing boats. The dike behind the building has been widened and raised, and work on the Afsluitdijk is still ongoing. Many years ago, when the Afsluitdijk was constructed, there was a large mound of basalt stones at the harbor. This mound was replaced in 1991 by the restaurant “Basalt.”
